During a heartfelt gathering hosted by the Gopi Krishna Memorial Foundation at Gomendra College, Birtamod, a poignant tribute unfolded as a book commemorating the remarkable legacy of the late journalist and writer, Gopi Krishna Khanal, was unveiled.
In attendance were Hem Prasad Khanal, Chairman of Khanal Seva Samiti, and Ganesh Prasad Khanal, an esteemed Educationist, who jointly revealed the book—a poignant testament to Khanal’s contributions to literature and journalism in Jhapa. Khanal’s untimely demise in a tragic road accident in July 2075 BS left a void in the realms he passionately ventured into.
Originating his journalistic journey via Baduli Bimonthly from Shilgadhi, West Bengal, India, Khanal etched his mark through various publications like Bibechana Monthly, Bishwodeep Half weekly, Bhanu, Rahar, Naya Bichar, Manakamana, Naya Kamana, among others.
His son, Manoj, shared that the book delves into Khanal’s profound dedication and contributions within the spheres of journalism and literature, encapsulating his indelible footprint in both fields.
Moreover, the poignant event witnessed the esteemed veteran journalist of Jhapa, Nakul Kazi, receiving the prestigious Gopi Krishna Memorial Journalism Award established by the Foundation. The honor, accompanied by a prize of Rs 50,000, was graciously presented by the guests, including the foundation’s patron, Rupadevi Khanal, Khanal’s wife.
Additionally, the occasion celebrated the recognition of Kamal Bhattarai and Narendra Parajuli, who were bestowed with encouragement prizes. The emotional tribute further included the screening of a documentary chronicling the inspiring biography of Khanal, meticulously crafted by Bijay Baral.
