Veteran litterateur Komal Prasad Pokharel has been conferred with the Gopi Krishna Memorial Award instituted in the memory of journalist and litterateur Gopi Krishna Khanal. A meeting of The Gopi Krishna Memorial Foundation has decided in this regard and said that this time the award will be given to Pokharel under the literature category.
The award was presented to veteran journalist and writer Nakul Kazi of Jhapa two years ago.
Gopi Krishna Khanal, who has been active in Nepali literature and journalism for four decades, was killed in a road accident in July 2018.
Khanal, who entered the Nepali journalism sector through the local Baduli bi-monthly while living in Shilgadhi, West Bengal, India, had worked in literary and newspapers including Bibechana Monthly, Semi-Weekly Bishwadeep, Bhanu, Rahar, Naya Vichar, Manakamana, Naya Kamana Weekly.
Khanal, who is active in the field of social service, is a founding member of Birta JCs, president of Nepal Journalists Association Jhapa, president of Sanatan Dharma Seva Samiti, Arjundhara Jaleshwor Dham, Nepal Vidwat Parishad, Literary Journalists Association, Vishwa Hindu Mahasangh.
